When comparing electric cars to hybrids and traditional cars with internal combustion engines, the former have several undeniable advantages:
- The efficiency of electric motors is much higher, with a useful coefficient ranging from 90-95%, compared to the most efficient internal combustion engines with a 42% efficiency rate.
- The unique construction of electric cars significantly reduces aerodynamic resistance due to the absence of a radiator and other cooling systems.
- In terms of maintenance, electric cars are more economical and require less frequent servicing compared to other types of transport.
- Calculating the cost of fueling a regular car and comparing it with the cost of charging an electric car shows clear financial savings.
- Some electric cars outperform their diesel and petrol counterparts in terms of power.

Currently, Cyprus has 2,500 registered electric cars. In 2022, the Cypriot government launched a comprehensive stimulus plan aimed at changing the attitudes of Cypriots toward transportation. Residents are offered subsidies not only for purchasing electric cars but also for installing charging stations. The plan aims to install no fewer than 1,000 charging stations by 2026.
